Bringing Tautua Home

You have seen Amata running for congress and participating in many local activities for many years. But, do you really know about her background and experience?

This video helps acquaint you with Amata and her history of tautua for her community even from as far away as Washington, DC.

After watching this video I think you will agree that Amata is a remarkable person. She is exactly the kind of person we need in DC representing the people, for the people.

Read Amata's KVZK Speeches

Each of these speeches develops her program for better representation in Congress by defining simple Samoan concepts of service and respect.

Fa'aaloalo

I am Aumua Amata and I am a candidate for delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives from American Samoa.   As I have before, I am offering my candidacy for this office because I believe the people of Tutuila, Aunu’u and Manu’a deserved a choice and I appreciate you taking a few minutes of your time to allow me to present to you the choice that my candidacy offers. (more..) (fa'asamoa)

Tautua

Talofa lava.  I am Aumua Amata, candidate for congress.  When I last visited with you, I spoke of fa’aaloalo as one of the three pillars of my campaign.  Tonight, I want to speak of a second pillar: tautua.

There are many meanings for tautua in our language, but in this context, the best translation of tautua into english is service.  Tautua is something that is instinctive for samoans because we learn the concept so early in childhood and practice it all our lives.  The concept of tautua sets us apart from many other cultures. Amata at the ASCC Forum

Amata attends the American Samoa Community College forum, which is organized every election in order to give each candidate an opportunity to express their views and opinions on the issues. Amata opens the forum as the first speaker, and thanks ASCC, its faculty, staff, student body, and the board of higher education for organizing this candidates’ forum. (more..)

Amata Speaks to the
Chamber of Commerce

Amata was well received at a gathering sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. She showed a short movie about her service to the people, which she explained was tatua.

She responded to many questions from the audience. Some of the questions were relevant to initiatives by our present congressman. Amata showed respect by not making a political issue out of her answers. She simply responded with facts on each subject.
